Your comments:

  • German mess tins have an insert tray by standard - as long as it is not lost in the field.

  • This image is of a Swedish mess tin from the 1970s-90s. The date of manufacture will be on the lip of the kidney insert, handle of the lid, and on the bail loop of the right side of the pot. the number will be a 2 0r 3 letter manufacturers code, followed by a 2 digit year of manufacture.

The German ones are similar, but with different bail loops on the pot and no kidney insert tray. WWII ones will be shorter than this, and the WWI version taller and narrower.
