WWII CHILDS GAS MASK (RESPIRATOR) IN YELLOW TIN

Child's Respirator and tin from the John Ambrose Collection used by John during World War Two.

Your comments:

  • I had a yellow tin which was issued with my gas mask when a child about 1942 which I always carried we were told to take notice of the tops of the round letter boxes as the top would change colour if gas was used

  • I have had one of these tins for some time (distributed to my family in WW2) and until now I did not know its purpose though I suspected it had something to do with the use of gas going by the label on the inside of the tin. My tin is green and has the same type of carry string shown here. The tin is in surprisingly good condition for its vintage. As I'd like to have a complete example, I'll look around to see if I can find a child's gas mask though I have never seen one at any swap meets or garage sales, cheers Kim
