  • I served a 5 year apprenticeship as an Instrument Maker with L Oertling in Orpington,Kent 1965-1974 and made many of these balances amongst others.

  • Superb craftsmanship and a treat to use. In the mid-60s during my time at the School of Pharmacy, University of London ('The Square' now amalgamated with UCL for good or bad?!)I had the pleasure of using balances such as this one. A little before that time I had acquired second-hand an earlier precision instrument by Oertling which we still have in the Observatory here on Rousay, Orkney.

  • I worked in May & Baker Ltd in the 1970s & 80s.
There were many of these superb balances in that huge factory site.
Many of these balances had worked faultlessly for decades with barely a service.
