'NIFE' NH10A SAFETY LAMP, 1940's

Miners safety lamp operating from chargeable Nickel Cadmium batteries which can be removed for charging, to access the battery a lockable catch is pulled forward and the handle and lid hinge upward, the battery can then be removed. To turn the lamp on or off there is a small thumbscrew, which has to be screwed in to make the connection. When closed the body is almost airtight. Alkaline batteries Ltd was formed in 1947 by the combination of Nife Batteries and Britannia Batteries, using the Nife brand. Nife Batteries was formed in 1909.
