Non-rubberised early Gas Mask used by the Germans during WW1. The base of the fabric hood tucked into the collar.
It was used to protect against British gas attacks.

Your comments:

  • This is the German mask designed for wounded men who could not wear the normal mask, it was introduced in 1917 or 1918. I describe it in my book World War I Gas Warfare Tactics & Equipment (Osprey 2007).
