MOTOROLA CELLULAR SEMI MOBILE PHONE, 1980's

An early example of a semi mobile phone, before true hand-held mobile phones were introduced.
This one would normally be mounted in a vehicle because of its weight.
Model S 1551A

Your comments:

  • The signal was OK, but it was rather awkward to carry. You were allowed to talk whilst driving in those days, but even with the phone balancing on the seat next to you, it was difficult to UN-click the receiver from its cradle with one hand. The hands free facility enabled you to hear the caller, but they couldn't hear you!
