GECOPHONE B.C. 600 WAVE-TRAP, 1920's

The instructions Read: - '' Wave-Trap and Coupling Unit. This new Gecophone device is an inexpensive but effective means of improving the selectivity of any set so that, even in the most difficult situation, alternate programmes may be received clearly and without interference. The unit is effective only on the broadcast wave-band -200-550 metres, as it is on this wave-band that the lack of selectivity on Receivers will be apparent''. Full instructions are with the unit.
The unit was necessary because of the introduction of a new system introduced by the BBC. Known as the Regional Scheme. This meant that as the airwaves were being crowded with new stations, this was beginning to cause one station to be interfering with another close to the same wavelength. This problem would be helped by the introduction of the Superhetrodine circuit of later wireless sets, which made stations more selective. The unit cost 18/6d in the late 1920's.
