COLLARO TAPE TRANSCRIPTOR Mk4 DECK of 1957

Christopher Collaro founded Collaro in 1920 up to 1974; they became the leading makers of Gramophone motors in the UK. This tape deck was one of a series of recorders made in the 1950's, and is the Mk4 of this series, known as the Tape Transcriptor Mk4. It had three motors for wind rewind and play/record, could carry tape sizes of up to 7 inches, was half track only, but uniquely could play in forward or reverse in mono only, it had three speeds including 15 ips, (inches per second), 7.5 ips and 3.75 ips, but not the slower speed of one and seven eights inches per second, normally used for speech only. See Item A1836, which uses one of these decks.
