VEHICLE IGNITION COIL, 1930's

Induction or Vibrator Coil which we think is an early ignition coil, there are no makers marks. Produces a healthy 15mm spark from 12 volts. Nothing more is known about this coil.

Your comments:

  • This is an induction coil for providing a spark, to the spark plug, for a petrol engine. Often called a trembler coil, due to the moving contact parts that opened to make the spark. Used on early motor vehicles and stationary engines, from the beginning of electric ignition, until around the 1920s. Possibly a unit for a single cylinder engine, a dry cell or accumulator would provide the current. A " make and break " switch device, timed to the engine's ignition / power stroke would switch in the current at the required time.
