WWII 'MICKEY MOUSE' CHILD'S GAS MASK

This type of mask was issued to small children during the Second World War, it was designed by an American to resemble a cartoon character. When they were at school children had to take regular gas drills.

  • Information provided is a myth. The Americans did work with Disney to design an actual Mickey Mouse respirator which never went into production. The UK used natural gum rubber suplies initially to create these red respirators but later seemingly reverted to just using reclaimed black rubber. The colourful appearence was likely intentional but I have not seen a single source for the mickey mouse claims besides people confusing it for the American design which actually resembles the character. By Porton standards, these were merely referred to as Respirator, General Civilian, Mk. III or GCR Mk. III. They were mostly referred to as Small Child Respirators.
